Planning a camping trip with your family? Maybe you’re a camp counselor looking for some games to play with the kids? If you get your internet through places like CannonSatellite.com then chances are you might have heard about the Snipe Hunt. While there is an actual animal called a snipe, that is not at all what the activity refers to.

Here’s what you do:

1. Wait until nightfall. Only when it’s dark will the full effect of the ruse be felt by your unsuspecting comrades.

2. Establish boundaries. You don’t want your kids running all over creation in the dark. Make sure they know the limit of the hunting area. Come up with some story about how snipes like this particular area, but be convincing.

3. Come up with a silly ritual that is required to capture the snipe. This can involve banging rocks together, making strange hooting noises, etc. Have fun with it.

4. Set them loose in search of the alleged snipe. Sure, it’s a ruse, but it’s harmless fun and your children will have a blast searching for the snipe.

And for an added level of fun, have something large handy and toss it down a hill or in a bed of dry leaves when your searchers aren’t looking. Then tell them that the sound they heard was the snipe.

One of my favorite meals while camping is, “Fried Fish And Ash Grilled Tomatoes’ cooked on an open fire.

Fried Fish And Ash Grilled Tomatoes

Olive oil
Salt
Pepper
Onion powder
Garlic powder
Lemon juice

Place several flat rocks in the area for your campfire to use as racks for your pans. Build a good size hot fire and let it die down so that you can use the heat from the coals to cook.

Catch and clean and filet the fish that you want to fry. Sprinkle fish with all the seasonings on both sides and rub lightly.

Rub tomatoes with olive oil then cut in half and sprinkle with salt, pepper, garlic, and onion powder, drizzle the tops with olive oil.

Place your skillet directly into the hot coals and add enough olive oil to cover the bottom of the pan. Let the oil heat to sizzling then add your fish, place the pan on one of the flat rocks inside of the coals.

Grease the bottom of another pan, add tomatoes cut side. Sit tomatoes on a flat rock in the fire let cook until tomatoes are heated. Squeeze lemon juice over fish and serve.

As a hunter, there are a few key priorities that govern how you camp. First, you want to make sure that you do not camp in a way that will drive away your prey. The most commonly made mistake is releasing scents that alert prey to your presence. Therefore, try to only eat food that is plant based as they do not emit much scent. You need to make sure that you move to a location away from your hunting sight when defecating or urinating as this too will alert prey.

Using an available shelter is best when hunting as the animals are familiar with its presence and may overlook yours if you are inside of it. In addition, purchasing specially designed hunting clothing such as jacket sleeping bag hybrid garments will ensure one-s ability to stay in a single location for an extended period of time. Hunting trips are focused camping adventures so try to be highly discriminating when selecting supplies to take as your pack load should be minimal to make room for weapons and ammunition.

Finally, never sacrifice safety when packing for a hunting trip. Appropriate licenses, appropriate safety gear and weapon’s safety should always be carried.

Camping is an amazing way to enjoy the boundless riches of nature. There are options to camp at drive up locations where recreational vehicles and car-side tents can occupy small reserved spaces, and these can be great options if you are just seeking to be outside for a few days. However, backpacking down a trail to a camping location is a better way to enjoy natural settings and a bit of isolation. The only obstacle is knowing what to take along when you head out.

The first thing to be sure to have is a permit. This is a small record that will confirm for rangers who you are and where you are expecting to be. In case something goes wrong, a permit is the only way the officials will even know to start looking for you.

Think about water, food and shelter. You want to make sure that you have each, but these things can involve different amounts of weight. For example, avoid carrying can food because it lasts long but is quite heavy and requires that you carry the can the whole time even after eating the contents. Try to limit your total pack weight to 38 pounds.
